Family beach vacations are tradition to many of us. Whether it’s the first or 50th trip to the beach, we often return to re-experience the joy we shared with our families in years past—and to create new memories to treasure.

Today, on WRIC-8’s Good Morning Richmond our own Mary Fisk Taylor spoke about how and why to make the most out of your family vacations to the beach. She reminded us that kids won’t be kids forever – each year is a milestone that should be captured, not just documented. {We will post the interview link on Facebook when it becomes available}

Mary provided the audience with 5 tips for successful beach photography and we wanted to share them with our readers in case you missed the show.

1. Pick the right time of day, sunrise or sunset not during the day to avoid squinty eyes and back lighting
2. Clothing does not have to match but should compliment each other and avoid super trendy outfits or clothing with lots of logos or writing on it
3. Keep an emergency kit nearby with hair brush, comb, product, headbands, bug spray
4. Take your photos early in the vacation before a possible sunburn since it shows up even more red in digital photography
5. Have fun with it! Be goofy and play around as well as taking that perfect record keeping image looking at the camera enjoy your time so when you look back on the images you smile at all of the fun times you had.
