As many of you know, Mary Fisk Taylor and her daughter Alex Taylor are in Mexico this week participating in a mission trip on behalf of PPA Charities and Operation Smile. Mary has been instrumental in the success of PPA Charities support of Operation Smile. This is very near and dear to their hearts so we wanted to let you see a little glimpse into their experience. We will share more as the week continues.

“My daughter, Alex Taylor, and myself leave on 9/18 for a 12 day mission trip with Operation Smile to Tolucca, Mexico. We are over the moon excited to be on this trip together and support both PPA Charities and Operation Smile.
Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity that heals children’s smiles, forever changing their lives. We’re a mobilized force of medical professionals and caring hearts who provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.
Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. One in 10 of those children will die before their first birthday. The children who survive are often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can’t afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a productive life.
Every child deserves access to safe, quality surgical care. Every child deserves a future filled with hope. That’s where we come in as the largest volunteer-based medical charity providing free cleft surgeries. Since 1982, Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided more than 3.5 million comprehensive patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with facial deformities. “We set up today at the children’s hospital. The screening process began and we saw many children that may or may not be candidates for surgery next week. We have a great team and we are super excited to be apart of this great team.”
“Day two of screening has come and gone. Day three announcements will be made many families will find out that Operation Smile will be changing their children’s lives forever, some will be sent home in hopes that next time will be their turn. This team of 70+ amazing volunteers, nurses, surgeons, dentists, anesthesiologists, support staff and students have screened and taken care of everyone of these children and their families as they went through the process. We only wish we could help them all.”
