In celebration of Halloween we wanted to share some tips on getting the perfect picture of your little ghouls and goblins. On Monday, Mary joined Morgan Dean on WRIC Channel 8 to share these tips but we wanted to recap them here in case you missed it! We also want to give a shout out to our adorable model, Carter Smith!

Tip #1: The best Halloween photos are taken at dusk. While the sun is setting, you will have enough light to easily forgo the flash and still capture the glow of the jack o lanterns in the background. Dark and creepy shots are perfect for Halloween, so avoid using the flash when possible. The spookier and moodier the better!

Tip #2: Take pictures of the kids’ costumes early! Once the little ghosts and goblins start roaming the neighborhoods in search of candy, the makeup gets smeared, costumes get tattered and dirty and faces sometimes end up with candy all over them. Get the photos out of the way first for best results.

Tip #3: Instead of using the flash to illuminate jack-o-lanterns, consider using street or porch lights for a softer, ambient glow. The camera’s flash will wash out the entire photo. However, be careful to hold the camera completely.

Tip #4: Make sure to capture all of the little details–the fun and spooky teeth, dramatic eyelashes or even fun details on the costumes. These can all be scrapbooked together to make a really cool collage!

Tip #5: When photographing the little ones, always get down on eye-level.  When we photograph from our height, it can create a very distorted view. For best results, get down there with the kiddos!

Chincoteague is a quaint little tourist destination that gained national fame in 1961 when Twentieth Century Fox premiered the movie Misty of Chincoteague. The movie was based on author Marguerite Henry’s award-winning children’s book Misty of Chincoteague, which she wrote in 1947 while staying at Miss Molly’s Inn on Chincoteague Island. The book and movie helped to forever transition Chincoteague Island from a small fishing village into a world-class tourist destination.

The bride and groom held the Rehearsal Dinner at The Museum of Chincoteague Island. The ceremony took place at Christ United Methodist Church followed by a reception at Steamers Restaurant, both on the charming island.
