We absolutely love this Oakley Family Oil Portrait! Ashley and Jeff wanted to update their oil portraits to include all three of their beautiful girls. We went on location to their new property in Powhatan, Virginia, Belmead on the James. Belmead is a truly historic property, being added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1969.
Belmead on the James was once a working farm, a catholic school, and most recently, a monastery. It is an absolutely beautiful piece of property with many different venues for outdoor portraits. Bradleigh, Hartley, and Waverly were such a joy to photograph. We went to several different spots, including one by an old stone bridge. The girls were dressed in the most adorable matching pink dresses. Their outfits coordinated perfectly with the natural backdrop. I think we almost gave Ashley a heart attack as the girls were closer than her liking to the edge of the old bridge. Then again, when she encountered a snake curled up next to her SUV. Needless to say, it was quite an exciting afternoon.
However, it was worth it. The end results were amazing. The sunlight was strong against their backs and the girls’ hair silhouetted them against the dark moss-covered stone of the 1600’s footbridge.
Then we headed off to the river bank where the girls changed into beautiful white dresses. Jamie was able to get the best posses of them looking off into the distance as they played in the water.
As you can see, we had a great time photographing these girls. They each have a personality of their own, but they are all so precious. Each of them will absolutely steal your heart. Jeff is a lucky man, to have four amazing girls in his life.
All in all, it was a perfect session that resulted in a perfect oil painting for their home.
