Fall is the best time in Central Virginia for a family road trip. Last week on Virginia This Morning, Mary talked about some great destinations around Virginia. She also discussed the importance of Documenting Family Fall Road Trips.

In the segment below, you will hear Mary and Bill Bevins talk about many wonderful destinations around Central Virginia. They begin their discussion with the mountains. First, they make a stop in Charlottesville where you can visit Carter’s Mountain to pick apples and sip on cider. Charlottesville has an endless amount of places to visit and activities to participate in throughout the year. Leaving Charlottesville, they move on to Wintergreen. Here you and your family can enjoy hiking, parks, Discovery Ridge. Finally, your travels to the mountains must include the overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway and local wineries and breweries along the way. All of these destinations make for the perfect family photo.

Then Bill makes sure Mary discusses “The Rivah”. A fall in Center Virginia wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Urbanna Oyster Festival. Next, they move on to Virginia Beach. There are many festivals and activities going on at the beach. Fall is also the perfect time to simply sit outside and enjoy the wonderful restaurants up and down the boardwalk.

Finally, they end at “home” in RVA. Mary discusses visiting Maymont Park, taking a Segway Tour, or simply enjoying some of Richmond’s rooftop restaurants. No matter which destination you choose, you are sure to have a great time. We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful places to visit within two hours east or west.

Documenting These Moments

However, Mary wants to make sure we understand that while visiting these places as a family is truly a blessing; it is as important that we document them. As an empty nester, she can attest to how quickly your kids grow up. Family portraits are a great way to preserve these memories and they give you something to look at every day.

Each and every year local families hire Hayes & Fisk to photograph their family portraits, not only at home in Richmond but also all over the state. We travel from the mountains to the beach to help you created lasting memories. Take a look below at some of the portraits that line the walls of so many homes around Richmond. Call us today so we can make this happen for you and your family.

We couldn’t love this Arnest Family River Portrait Session anymore! These people are as close to family as it gets and we love each of them so very much.

We were able to get the entire Arnest family together for this session at the river. We had everyone from Jessica’s grandfather George to the five great-grandchildren. Millie the dog even joined in.

The weather was perfect with a little nip in the air. There was dew on the ground and the fields of huge hay bails filled the horizon for as far as our eyes could see. The family farm provided the perfect backdrop of coordinating fall colors. Even Millie, Jessica and Alex’s yellow lab, was dressed to impress.

We have photographed these kids many times, but it was so fun to have everyone together for one big photoshoot. The kids had a great time and gave us all of their personalities. It was an absolutely perfect day.

All of us are guilty of letting life pass us by. So many of us don’t take the time to get everyone together to document and preserve these memories. However, we must do better. It is so important to capture these moments for immediate and future generations. Once you lose a family member, you understand that there is no guarantee of tomorrow. You have to make the most of today.

We are reposting the Walton Sisters’ Portrait Session with the addition of the video below. You will see Jamie putting the finishing touches on their oil portrait. We do not leave any detail to chance.

We love how the images turned out for the Walton Sisters’ Portrait Session. We met Laura and her daughters, Anna Kate and Caroline after they were given a gift certificate to Hayes & Fisk. This certificate was given to them by Amanda and Anne, the former owners of Buttons & Bows Children’s Boutique. It is funny how some of our best Hayes & Fisk relationships and portraits start with a gift certificate.

From the beginning, Jamie knew that the end product would have a more sophisticated look. The blue tones from both of the girl’s dresses, helped us create the perfect look. Also, their outfits provided the perfect pop of color, with our gardens serving as the backdrop. We are so lucky to have these gorgeous gardens on our studio property.

In addition, we were really able to capture the innocence of the sisters as both the girls laughed and played the entire session. Also, their playful nature lead to the best smiles and their personalities really came through.

Like so many of our portrait consultations, Laura and Michael wanted to know when was the best time to have their children photographed. Our answer is simple – right now! With our busy, over-scheduled lives, living in the moment becomes harder and harder to accomplish. We have never had anyone say, “I wish we would have waited to have these portraits done.” The Walton Family now gets to enjoy these beautiful images on their walls every day. We can’t think of a better decoration piece for your walls.
