Family portrait sessions are such an incredible way to create lasting memories. This Nyman Family Portrait Session is no exception. Joy knew it was time to document this special time in their lives. She understood that a family portrait was the perfect way to create a gift that her family would treasure forever.

The Process

First, we began the process by visiting their home. This helps us get a sense of their lifestyle and allows us to choose a color and style palette that will coordinate with what they already have in their home. During this visit, we also helped the family select the perfect location for the two oil portraits they wanted for the session. We knew a more formal portrait would fit perfectly in their family room. Then we chose a space downstairs that would work for a more modern portrait. This image would be a black and white oil painting on acrylic to compliment the space.

We envisioned the color palette for the more formal Renaissance portrait to be a variety of medium to dark blues with white or gold accents. This was the perfect pairing with the lush greenery and tall leather armchair that served as the perfect prop for this shoot. A totally different mood and feeling would be created in the second oil portrait that would hang downstairs in their man cave.

The session began in the gardens of our Richmond, Virginia studio. The family was at ease in front of the camera and some of the more relaxed shots were Joy’s favorites. While these images might not end up on the wall, they will be treasured in their Folio Box along with their other favorite candids and extra individual poses. Once we captured what we needed outside we transitioned to the studio where we photographed the perfect shot to use for their Black & White Relationship portrait.

Britton Studio Session

This Britton Studio Session is absolutely adorable! We were so excited when Patty Ross called us to create a matching canvas portrait for her second granddaughter. This Britton Studio Session is absolutely adorable! We were so excited when Patty Ross called us to create a matching canvas portrait for her second granddaughter. Hayes & Fisk created a beautiful portrait, for now, 23-year-old, Hailey. For this session, we were recreating the same look for four-year-old, Isabelle. Hailey’s main portrait captured her liveliness of being a little girl and now we wanted the same for Isabelle.

Patty, Isabelle’s parents, Heath and Jim, and Isabelle joined us in the studio for this session. It was great to see everyone again. Right away, we knew this session would be special. Isabelle was adorable and took to the camera right away. We quickly created a few options that would pair perfectly together with her sister’s portrait. Then we took some time to have a little fun and let Isabelle show us her big personality.

Since Heather and Jim were only in town for the weekend, we went ahead and made all of the selections at the end of the session. They were able to select the perfect compliment to Hailey’s portrait while enjoying the fun images we captured of Isabelle.

If you are considering a portrait session for your family, give us a call today to schedule a free consultation. Hayes & Fisk will take care of everything from the first phone call until installation day.

This Frazier-Stickley Engagement Session took place at Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia. Jill and Dillian were experts in front of the camera as we captured the perfect shot for their first oil portrait as a couple.

Sometimes you just know true love when you see it. We immediately knew that Jill and Dill were meant to be together and that we were meant to photograph their engagement session and wedding.

Since Jill and Dill were already in their first home, and it was so close to Maymont Park, we thought would be a fantastic location for their engagement session. Jill even worked there a few years back, so we immediately knew it would be a perfect backdrop to create a timeless piece of art to be displayed in their living room.

We began the process by visiting their home to determine the perfect location for the final product. Together, we decided to fill the wall beside their television, an area visible from several rooms. It was obvious that the dark green accent wall would be the perfect complement to the lush greenery and foliage of the park. Then we decided on blue as the color palette for their clothing.

We began the session at the top of the Italian Gardens, working in a place where no one was in the background. Then we worked our way to the Japanese Gardens. Here the golden sunlight, filtering down through the trees, created the perfect spot and composition that would make for a big wow on their wall. We knew the winning shot when we pushed the camera’s shutter button! This feeling was solidified when we watched their faces as the image popped on our large screen when they first viewed the images.

The joy on Jennifer’s face when she entered the studio to take the first look at the finished painting said it all. Only matched by the same joy on Jill and Dillian’s faces when they walked around the corner of their kitchen to see this masterpiece hanging in their living room.

Another perfect and amazing oil painting for another amazing client!
